DO NOT BUY THE LOOSE LEAF VERSION!

The content of the book is fine. What's wrong with this particular edition is that the book's pages are 9.5 inches wide. That's too wide in size for any binder I've tried. It's hanging over the edge of my Samsill binder, a Wilson Jones binder, and an Avery binder, too. 1" 1.5", 2" 3"--doesn't matter what size it is, this book is hanging off the edges unless the very largest binders are laying perfectly flat on a desk. I've had the book not even four hours and it's already getting wrecked from one brief trip in my backpack because Pearson tried to cut the wrong corners by reducing the number of pages, yet forgetting that A STINKING LOOSE LEAF BOOK HAS TO FIT IN A FRICKING LOOSE LEAF BINDER that most people will use.

It does no good to have this book if it's going to get trashed in a day because this idiotic company can't do anything right--which they can't. I am so sick of having to deal with this publisher that I could scream. Every book and online program is a mess, which is sad because most of the textbook writers are pretty good. It's in the delivery of the content that Pearson makes utter fools of themselves, over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Pearson is THE WORST publisher on the planet, bar none.

So anyway, if you get this book, expect to get the Avery Extra-Wide binder as well. Pearson probably gets a kickback every time you buy one.

If one must read criticism on Swift it may as well be this

OK I admit it--I love Jonathan Swift--An unbelievable satirist and a very talented writer and poet. This book has some great essays about Swift, his history, and contemporaries. These essays are somewhat esoteric and scholarly but worth the effort. Especially the Blackwell essay. If you are writing a paper on Swift (or you are a sincere fan) and you want info--read this book.

Norman M. Bradburn is the Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor emeritus psychology, at the Harris Graduate School of Public Policy and the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He was a senior vice president at the National Opinion Research Center.
Seymour Sudman was a Walter H. Stellner Distinguished Professor of Marketing and deputy director and research professor at the Survey Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Professor Sudman died in 2000.
Brian Wansink is Professor of Marketing, Nutritional Science, Advertising and Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is also Research Professor at Cornell University and at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

The definitive questionnaire design book

This book is a tremendous resource for any social science research methodology course. It should be used as a stand-alone text for a questionnaire design course or as core reading material for a general research methodology class (undergraduate or graduate). As a social scientist, I have used it to successfully create web-based questionnaires that have received great response rates, which I believe are a direct result of the depth and breadth of the knowledge conveyed in the book. In addition, the text itself is easy to understand, interesting, and intellectually stimulating (qualities that are lacking in many other questionnaire design books).

Its a textbook for my class on survey questionnaire design. It is a very good textbook. It is easy to read and concepts are presented in an accessible manner. It works better if you read it with other research on question wording and cognitive interviewing etc...

A bit of a dry read... but you will learn everything you ever need to know about survey design. After my survey research class, I decided to keep it in my collection as a reference material. I even lend it out to some of the Research Assistants in my office to get them familiar with survey design.

Part Two contains initials from printed books, starting with the fifteenth century and running through the eighteenth. Here are the fanciful creations of the sixteenth-century woodcutters; initials illustrated with children, cherubs, birds, beasts, flowers, legends, and grotesque heads. The work of the later engravers, writing masters, and baroque and rococo designers follows in order. Part Three attempts to arrange the "great weedy jungle" of Victorian letters and types and concludes with twentieth-century alphabets such as the distinctive wood engraving of Edward Wadsworth. This book provides hours of entertainment and study. Alphabets from all different eras, some of them incredibly ornamental. Every time I look at this book, I see something new to admire.

Great resource book for Calligraphers, and Penwork Doodling Artists

This book is a great resource for calligrapher, doodling artists, lettering artists that need a copyright-FREE book for inspiring their creativity.

The book shows the contour lines of the initials letters where the artist used the positive and negative shapes of the letter form to draw patterns. The book starts with the 8th century and ends in the beginning of the 20th century. This is a great resource book to add to your library if you love working in the contour of the outline of the alphabets and initials letter forms. This book works for me as a calligrapher and also as a Doodling Artist that specialize in working in the positive and negative contour lines of a letter form using geometric shapes and ink silhouette shading.

My favor plate is Plate 29 which the author describes "Letter surrounded by penwork doodling-from a 16th-century chorale, Monte Cassino.

I also use this book to challenge my art skills, for example plates 102 and plate 117 are full with penwork doodling.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves decorative alphabets and initials.
