About the Author
Max Ehrmann was an attorney turned philosopher-poet who lived in Terre Haute, Indiana. He spent his life wrestling with the realities of making a living and following his personal calling to a life of poetry, literature, and thought. Ehrmann wrote A Prayer, which became a message of hope for thousands, but he is best known for Desiderata, which he wrote for himself, ?because it counsels those virtues I felt myself most in need of.? Ehrmann included this work as part of a personal Christmas greeting in 1933, and Desiderata's power and appeal have continued to reach out to and significantly affect readers ever since. Ehrmann died in 1945.

Scanned images of a library book

The poems are fine, but this ebook is just scanned pages of a library book pulled from the shelves of the University of California--no transcription, etc. That makes it hard to read on a Kindle/other device, and it uses up lots of memory. It just seems kind of wrong to be charging a dollar for that...

Where has this poet been hiding? Why, after all these years, am I just now learning about him?

Max Ehrmann is one of the most accessible, moving and understandabale poets I have ever read. He is not writing to impress scholars and his fellow poets; he's writing to communicate his heart, his mind, his soul and the experiences of mankind and, oh, what a good job he does of that.

His words,phrases and lines leap off the page as they describe and frame the thoughts, hopes, dreams, fears and frustration of living life, life as it is, life as it once was, and life as we wish it was and could be. This guy's good, folks, dam(n) good. The pathos and humor of his work is exceptional as well as meaningful.

I've never enjoyed reading poetry, but I couldn't wait to get to the next poem, the next page and, now, the next book.

This edition is a reprint of what is decribed by the publisher as "Lost Books..."

Thank goodness this man, this poet, is lost no more...

About the Author
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) is one of the twentieth century's greatest minds and the founder of the psychoanalytic school of psychology. His many works include The Ego and the Id; An Outline of Psycho-Analysis; Inhibitions; Symptoms and Anxiety; New Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis; Civilization and Its Discontent, and others.

Peter Gay is the author of more than twenty-five books, including the National Book Award winner The Enlightenment, the best-selling Weimar Culture, and the widely translated Freud: A Life for Our Time. He lives in New York City.

FREUD ON LOVE: HE EXTENDS HIS "LIBIDO THEORY"

Freud wrote this book in 1921, and its themes are related to his books Beyond the Pleasure Principle-First Edition text and The Ego and the Id - First Edition Text.

Here are some representative quotations from the book:

"(I)n a group the individual is brought under conditions which allow him to throw off the repressions of his unconscious instinctual impulses. The apparently new characteristics when he then displays are in fact the manifestations of this unconscious..."
"Since a group is in no doubt as to what constitutes truth or error, and is conscious, moreover, of its own great strength, it is as intolerant as it is obedient to authority. It respects force and can only be slightly influenced by kindness, which it regards merely as a form of weakness."
"But we do not separate ... one the one hand, self-love, and on the other, love for parents and children, friendship and love for humanity in general, and also devotion to concrete objects and to abstract ideas. Our justification lies in the fact that psychoanalytic research has taught us that all these tendencies are an expression of the same instinctual impulses; in relation between the sexes these impulses force their way toward sexual union, but in other circumstances they are diverted from this aim..."
"From being in love to hypnosis is evidently only a short step. The respects in which the two agree are obvious."

One of Freud's Best Books

I came across this little tome when I was in college. Exploded for me. Made me go on to read much of the Strachey editions in the library. Just reread it again. Still think it's amazing.

In the beginning, Freud makes a couple statements that are pretty fascinating: that almost no one has written about group psychology and that perhaps there is no such thing as individual psychology.

And you could argue that Group Psych is even more important today than when Freud wrote this in the 1920s.

Finally, Freud is one of those writers who is rarely read, but often (mis)characterized by other writers. If you have never read an original Freud work, this is a great place to start. You'll be surprised.

This is a bootleg version of the book which is great for just reading, but if you want to type up an essay and reference it, there is no editor/publisher and all it says on the inside cover is "Made in the USA." If it weren't for class, I wouldn't care, but the pagination is off, and some of the words are off, too.

About the Author
Mark Shackleton is currently University Lecturer at the Department of English, University of Helsinki. He is author of Moving Outward: The Development of Charles Olsonâs Use of Myth (1993) and has edited a number of volumes on North American studies including Migration, Preservation and Change (1999), Roots and Renewal (2001), and First and Other Nations (2005). He has published widely on Native North American writing, including articles on Tomson Highway, Thomas King, Monique Mojica, Gerald Vizenor, Louise Erdrich, and Simon J. Ortiz.

I had the opportunity to review Information Development Using Mike2.0 (Motion Publishing, 2013) by Andreas Rindler, Robert Hillard, Sean McClowry and Sven Mueller.

MIKE2.0, which stands for Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment, is an open source methodology for Enterprise Information Management that provides a framework for information development including Business Intelligence, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Content Management, Information Asset Management, Enterprise Search, Information Management Strategy, Information Governance and Information Architecture.

The MIKE2.0 Methodology was initially created by a team from BearingPoint. All content on MIKE2.0 is made freely available as open source under the Creative Commons Attribution License. All the content is available at [...]

The book consists of key content from Mike2.0 and is arranged in a consumable manner. It includes an overall implementation guide, Mike2.0 solutions, the SAFE (STRATEGIC ARCHITECTURE for the Federated Enterprise) architecture, deliverable templates, popular blog posts and references. Given my own specialty, I appreciated the focus on Information Governance and Big Data.

The book is a definite must read for Information Management professionals who are looking to establish a data management competency within their organizations. And a special word of thanks to Rob, Sven, Sean, and Andi for taking the time to put this book together for the information management practitioner community.

A great book on Mike2.0 and information development

This book's value should be evaluated in conjunction with MIKE2.0 methodology (Method for an Integrated Knowledge Development). Even though there is a variety of information management methodologies established on the market, MIKE2.0 is special in a number of aspects. The methodology is available in the public domain and easily accessible over the Internet. Not only information management professionals can readily review and evaluate the methodology, they can also contribute to the content of MIKE2.0. This makes the methodology collaborative, continuously evolving and ultimately more dynamic and comprehensive than proprietary methodologies developed and maintained by companies and organizations

In the past, one of the challenges for a new user of MIKE2.0 was the abundance of information that MIKE2.0 offers. A demand for a concise book summarizing the key concepts of the methodology, its framework and organization was fairly obvious . The information management community has finally obtained this book!

The book is organized in 8 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the methodology. Chapter 2 describes the implementation phases. In chapter 3 the solution offerings covered by MIKE2.0 are reviewed at a high level. Chapter 4 focuses on some select solutions that include a number of traditional disciplines like information management and relatively new information development areas such as Big Data. Chapter 5 introduces SAFE architecture (Strategic Architecture for the Federated Enterprise). Some supporting and very useful assets and blogs are presented in chapters 6 and 7. Chapter 8 provides some select case studies that illustrate the methodology in action.

A savvy information management professional can quickly familiarize himself or herself with the methodology framework, activities, deliverables, phases and solutions. Despite its breadth, the book is relatively concise and it is written very well. Some chapters, especially discussions on information development history, will be of interest for a broader audiences including college students.
