OK I admit it--I love Jonathan Swift--An unbelievable satirist and a very talented writer and poet. This book has some great essays about Swift, his history, and contemporaries. These essays are somewhat esoteric and scholarly but worth the effort. Especially the Blackwell essay. If you are writing a paper on Swift (or you are a sincere fan) and you want info--read this book.

Seymour Sudman was a Walter H. Stellner Distinguished Professor of Marketing and deputy director and research professor at the Survey Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Professor Sudman died in 2000.
Brian Wansink is Professor of Marketing, Nutritional Science, Advertising and Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is also Research Professor at Cornell University and at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

The definitive questionnaire design book

This book is a tremendous resource for any social science research methodology course. It should be used as a stand-alone text for a questionnaire design course or as core reading material for a general research methodology class (undergraduate or graduate). As a social scientist, I have used it to successfully create web-based questionnaires that have received great response rates, which I believe are a direct result of the depth and breadth of the knowledge conveyed in the book. In addition, the text itself is easy to understand, interesting, and intellectually stimulating (qualities that are lacking in many other questionnaire design books).

Its a textbook for my class on survey questionnaire design. It is a very good textbook. It is easy to read and concepts are presented in an accessible manner. It works better if you read it with other research on question wording and cognitive interviewing etc...

A bit of a dry read... but you will learn everything you ever need to know about survey design. After my survey research class, I decided to keep it in my collection as a reference material. I even lend it out to some of the Research Assistants in my office to get them familiar with survey design.

Here are the fanciful creations of the sixteenth-century woodcutters; initials illustrated with children, cherubs, birds, beasts, flowers, legends, and grotesque heads. The work of the later engravers, writing masters, and baroque and rococo designers follows in order. Part Three attempts to arrange the "great weedy jungle" of Victorian letters and types and concludes with twentieth-century alphabets such as the distinctive wood engraving of Edward Wadsworth. Each section has a historical introduction, and each plate has a descriptive caption.

Great resource book for Calligraphers, and Penwork Doodling Artists

This book is a great resource for calligrapher, doodling artists, lettering artists that need a copyright-FREE book for inspiring their creativity.

The book shows the contour lines of the initials letters where the artist used the positive and negative shapes of the letter form to draw patterns. The book starts with the 8th century and ends in the beginning of the 20th century. This is a great resource book to add to your library if you love working in the contour of the outline of the alphabets and initials letter forms. This book works for me as a calligrapher and also as a Doodling Artist that specialize in working in the positive and negative contour lines of a letter form using geometric shapes and ink silhouette shading.

My favor plate is Plate 29 which the author describes "Letter surrounded by penwork doodling-from a 16th-century chorale, Monte Cassino.

I also use this book to challenge my art skills, for example plates 102 and plate 117 are full with penwork doodling.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves decorative alphabets and initials.

The most asked question I get from home owners is “Where do I begin?” I suspect like most home owners the landscape design can seem over whelming, daunting and confusing. There are so many things to consider: Design, plants, water, budget, and more. Well relax I wrote this book to explain my landscape design process. I have developed a technique that I have always used on thousands of residential and commercial projects for the last twenty five years.
The purpose of design is to figure out what goes where. Yes, that is the big question “how do you know where to put what?” No one wants to redo a garden because of poor planning, nor do you want to dig up plants in a year or two because they were wrongly placed. All these reasons are expensive, time consuming and very discouraging. Most of you have a vision or have seen pictures that you really like, but just don’t know how to start or how to get the results you are looking for. Using my design process will eliminate the guess work, so you will feel confident about creating your new landscape design and confident that it will continue to be a blessing and not a train wreck.

Landscaping D-Mystified is RIGHT!!!

I needed to spruce up my yard and beds in order to get my house ready to sell. Being limited on money to spend on a landscaper I bought Landscaping D-Mystified by Jamalyn Nelson (The Garden Sleuth) and with the book and her website [...] I was able to put together a landscape plan that I was able to follow and with the help of my brother and the yard had never looked so professionally decked out. Jamalyn is a genius and has made it so easy for a novice like me to put together a landscape design that made it easy for me to know what to plant where and helped me save a bushel of money. I could not be happier. I plan to use the same process when I get moved to my new place and save another bushel of money. Thank you Jamalyn!

Not much for western gardeners

I read this in an evening. And although it was just a few days ago, I can't remember anything helpful I learned from this book.. California is a whole different gardening world, and it seems like most of this book didn't apply to my situation. It might be useful for others, but it have anything I needed. However, the price (free on Kindle) was right.

I stumbled across this book as I was looking for landscape design ideas. This book allowed me to select different landscape options and see a finished product before spending a small fortune. I'm super excited for Spring - my backyard will never be the same!
